D.I.Y Feather Picture Frame

My friends, it is time for a DIY!

Who doesn’t love a quick, fun, craft?

Recently, I told you all about those gorgeous feather frames. Well, now I’m going to teach you how to make your own!

These are so unique and so personal. No one else will have one like it. They are also the perfect gift.

So to start, buy a plane wood frame. You can find them cheap at dollar stores, craft stores, or pretty much anywhere else.

1.      Remove the glass and backing, then lay flat on a newspaper.

2.      Prime the frame with white paint. This will keep your layers even, and reduce the number of coats you need.

3.      PAINT! This is where you get to express your creative side. Paint it all one color, stripes, flowers, hearts… whatever you like best! If you want to try something really special, you can paint an ombre blend. To do so, paint three colors, from light to dark, with a small empty space between them. Then blend the three colors with a paintbrush. Viola!

4.      Let the frame dry

5.      When it’s dry, attach the feather of your choosing.

6.      Spray the frame with 2 coats of acrylic paint sealer. Let it dry between coats.

There it is! You’ve made your own frame! If you want to make it extra special, add glitter like this chic artist did:

If you want to spruce up an already existing frame, flip it over, and use a hot glue gun to attach your favorite kind of feathers.

This crafty mama did black on black and it came out super chic!

Feather Picture Frames

These last few weeks I’ve been having lots of company. My kids are running in and out of the house, other parents drop by; friends come to see ma… such an exciting time!

So obviously, my house gets inspected a lot. So while looking for redecorating ideas, I found the cutest feather frames!

They’re the perfect eye catcher – and can really complete a room.

I found this feathered frame on etsy. Simple, neutral colors accented by a blue, green, and brown peacock feather really will frame your family – or beloved pet, in a classy, refined setting. Also, perfect for black and white pictures!

Another refined frame, found on Pomegranate, uses pheasantfeathers that are hand placed. Yes, you read that right. Someone sat and attached these delicate feathers one by one. A great addition to any room! The bronze tone and color scheme means it works especially well with a wood-floored room. Or, if you really want the frame to pop, hang it on a brightly colored wall!

Not to be outdone, Barneys jumped on the trend to! This beautiful frame, found on Laura Day, really accentuate the feathers’ summer colors. Check out that red-pink on top of the subtle green-blue. Simply gorgeous!

D.I.Y Feathered Tablecloths

Ladies and Gentleman, it is time for another DIY!

I just can’t help myself. Those feathered tablecloths I posted about have been driving me crazy. I kept thinking, how can I use that in my daily life? How can I make that a little more casual?

You only get married once.

Well, some of us more than others.

But still, I want to throw birthdays, and dinner parties, and holiday meals on a feathered tablecloth. Who wouldn’t?

And then it hit me. Forget white; forget fancy.

Hello, feather trimmed fabric.

Check this one out:

And it’s so easy you can make one too!

1.      First, pick out a fabric. Choose something easily washable, so you don’t have to worry about spills and stains.

2.      Choose a feather trim. Make sure the colors blend well, and remember that you can make the trim yourself, or buy a pre-made one.

3.      Once you’ve chosen and cut your fabric, now comes the fun part. If you want to, you are welcome to sew the trim on by hand (or by machine). However, I bought myself some fabric glue and got to work. Spread the glue on the back of the ribbon and then press down with your fingers for about 5 seconds to seal the glue. I suggest doing small sections at a time. Just glue and pinch, glue and pinch, glue and pinch.

4.      Viola! You now have an amazing, handmade, completely original feather tablecloth. Bring on the fun!

Feather Tablecloths

Birds of a feather flock together. Right?

Well, as of late, designers sure have. This season’s hottest wedding accessory – feathers – have been showing up in tablecloths!

This elegant tablecloth – made of hundreds of tiny white feathers, was to match Oscar de la Renta’s unbelievably beautiful feather wedding gown. Here’s a picture I found on Wedsavvy:

If colorful statements are more your thing, try this beautiful peacock feather tablecloth. Notice the feathered pen that provides that finishing touch! Perfect for lively wedding receptions.

If you are looking for something more elegant, but all white just isn’t your thing – try a white tablecloth with black feathers. This one specifically is hemmed with gorgeous black feathers, but yours can be done anyway you please! Imagine one with tufts of feathers, or even a black and white feather pattern.

The possibilities are endless!

Firstdibs Feathers

I am in feather heaven. HEAVEN! I was surfing through firstdibs.com and found all these feathered pieces that are just to die for.

Green, red, black, orange… you want it, they got it. I thought I might post here some of the pieces I especially loved, but feel free to surf for yourself and post your favorites in the comments. I’d love to hear what appeals to you most.

One of the most original pieces I found is a lime green knit cut, and hemmed with gorgeous ostrich feathers. Is it not beautiful?

This bubblegum pink hat (by Christian Dior might I mention?) features matching feathers on the side. If the feathers were a different shade the overall effect might have been a bit overwhelming, but bold uniform color makes the piece a killer. What would you pay to put this masterpiece on your head?

Victor Costa designed this stunning dress, an electric purple perfectly accented by a loud, ruffled hem of dark pink feathers. Simply fantastic:

Feather Shoes 2013

There is one thing on this planet that I just cannot resist. And that, my dear friends, is shoes.
What woman can? They might even rival chocolate as the one thing women want most. And
this week all I see are feathers - shoes with feathers! It is the merging of two heavens, the
essence of the perfect item, possibly the point of my existence!

Well, maybe not the point of my existence.

But I am simply obsessed with feathered shoes, and this season, they are in by the closetful.

One of the first pairs that caught my eye take is the Pina Colada Sandals by Aquazzura an
interesting twist on feathers – who would have thought fruit? They are perfectly tropical and
fun!

Another amazing pair, by Charllote Olympia, uses every color in the rainbow! These Dolly

Feather Rainbow Pumps just scream party.

Another wild work encompasses an ombre feather style that is simply fabulous. The range of

blue and yellow hues streamline effortlessly to give off a young and stylish impression that

just can't be countered. I also adore the finishing touch here, the aerial feather in the front –

it is so original and unexpected.

For a more subdued, simple look, these shoes by Roberto Cavalli are perfect for the office,
a lunch meeting, or networking event. Classy and sophisticated, the black feathers on these
pumps are almost an onyx color, giving off a slight jewel tone as well.

Spring Feather Fashion 2013

 The highly anticipated New York Fashion week has finally come, and feathers are everywhere!

I thought I'd show you a few of my favorite pieces, though there are enough to sit for hours looking through.

One of the most stunning feathered dresses I saw was this one in Prabal Gurung's new spring collection.

Prabal Gurung has actually been making some of the most popular feathered dresses lately. Everyone looks good in black, but Demi Moore, pictured here on the red carpet, took that one step further when she went for a head to toe look in this feathered masterpiece.

 Feathered shawls, wraps, or shrugs are the perfect way to liven up an otherwise plain and ordinary LBD, and have also become all the rage lately. This grey one has a chic, sophisticated look that adds an air of luxury to the entire ensemble, while still keeping it cool and collected.

Another great way to make any outfit pop is with a feathered purse in a bright, eye catching color. For more conserved feather lovers, a purse can be the perfect finishing touch to any dress, pantsuit, or even casual wear.  This purse, by Kate Spade, is made from actual ostrich feathers! I would love to have one of these myself.
