Peacock Feathers - Not Just The Tail

Peacock feathers are really popular for a reason.

They are absolutely stunning!

The perfect combination of colors, in beautiful patterns that create the rich and colorful image of the eye that the peacock tail feathers are so famous for. But the peacock has many other beautiful feathers that don’t get the same amount of publicity as the tail feathers.

Take a look at these three different feathers that come from the peacock, but are not the tail feather.
They each have beautiful colors and can be used for all sorts of feather crafts and fashions.

Peacock Plumage - Natural Black

Look at the awesome contrast of te black with the green in these feathers.
Also a big plus about these feathers that we have to mention is the low price. Think about how much you can do with these feathers when you can get them at such a low cost.

Peacock Black Partridge

These feathers in addition to their great color combination also have great patterns in them.

Peacock Mini Blue Wings

I am absolutely in love with the blue in these feathers. How can you not be? Just look at it!

These are just three of the beautiful feathers that you can find at FeatherStore.com.

Peacock Feather Dresses – 1900`s & 2000`s

I just need to put these two pictures next to each other to show the wonders of our evolution.

Take a minute to see the evolution of our style.

See the evolution of our technology, the advances in our ability to capture an image.

I feel from looking at these two pictures that you could see the advancement of our race at being happier even.

But hey you know this isn’t a history or a sociology blog.

We like to talk about feathers.

And after a hundred years people are still wearing peacock feather dresses.

Feathers are forever.

How To Make A Peacock Feather Skirt

Buy this hot peacock feather dress for 195 pounds or you can try and make your own skirt and add a top of your own choosing. I can’t say that it will look as good but it will cost less and maybe you can make something that will look even better.
This is a project that I would say is simple but not exactly easy. You could make a very impressive looking peacock feather skirt without being very skilled but you do need to be motivated. The reason you need to be motivated is because there is quite a bit of tedious work involved in this project. The amount of work you will need to do depends very much on the length of the skirt you are making. A mini skirt will take far less time than a full length skirt will.
What you will need.
1- A skirt
3- Needle and thread
4- Two inch strip of material to create a belt for the top of the skirt
Now let’s just say that you are making a mini skirt like the one in the picture. All you need to do is attach two rows of feathers and add the material to cover up the stems of the top row of feathers. Start with the bottom row, place the feathers vertically and let the tips of the feathers come bellow the bottom of the skirt with the feather stems facing up.
Attach the feathers
Thread the needle and hold the feather on to the place of the skirt that you would like to attach it to. Starting from the inside of the skirt, push the needle through the skirt material right next to the feather stem. Pull the thread over the feather stem and back through the skirt material. Then go through the skit material again and over the feather again. Make three or four rounds pulling the thread tight to secure the feather to the skirt. Knot both ends of the thread on the inside of the skirt.
Go all the way around the skirt attaching each feather just over lapping the feather next to it.
Remember what I said about motivation?
The second row should cover the stems of the first and so on until the skirt is covered with feathers.
Attach the last strip of material at the top to cover the feather steams at the top row and you are done.

Brandon Flowers – Come Buy Your Feathers from Us

Who is Brandon Flowers?

He was the front man for the band the killers and now if you do a search for Brandon flowers on Youtube you could see a strange video he has where this good looking blond ninja girl keeps on saving him from these other ninjas. It’s a bit strange but if you would like to check it out here is the link

Why are we talking about Mr Flower and asking him to buy his feathers from us?
The answer is because he started a feather fashion in the alternative rock world by wearing feathers on his shoulders.
Some people would like to argue this fact but if you take a look and read the post on this link you can see some very strong proof to the statement that he started this trend and others.

So in short Brandon helped to bring feather fashion to even more people and helped put more feathers on clothing so we just wanted to say thanks and come buy your feathers from us.

Peacock Feather Dresses

Of course you see peacock feathers in fashion a lot but most of the time you only see print images of peacock feathers on the clothing. These are not the kind of apparel that interests us because we are all about real feathers on clothing.
But some of these dresses really do show some beautiful imagery of peacock feathers. Take a look at this piece from Jovani.
After a minute of browsing the internet I realized that I will need to write at least another post about peacock feather dresses to fully cover the topic.
And yes only real peacock feather dresses.
The first one I came across was this peacock feather wedding dress which was displayed at the wedding expo held in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, March 28, 2009.

This dress was available for brides that were able to spend 1.5 million dollars on their wedding dress.
To go along with the year it was displayed it was made using 2009 peacock feathers.

If you read our post about Peacock Feathers and Peacock tails you would understand this comment on inventorespot.com
“By putting yourself on display as one of the biggest and boldest MALE peacocks, you might find a trail of little brown hens behind you as you walk down the aisle.”

How To Make A Hawaiian Feather Lei

The best part about making a Hawaiian Lei out of feathers is that, unlike a lei made from flowers, the feathers won’t wither up and they will more or less stay the same color. Making these feather leis is a old Hawaiian art form and was done also before the arrival of the first westerners in the 17th century.

Making this feather lei is not difficult, but it does require a good bit of time. You can create your lei using just one color of flowers or you can use different color and add other kinds of feathers to add charm and color to your lei.

What do you need for this project?

1- A strip of material as long as you are going to want to make the lei and four centimeters wide

2- Needle and thread

3- Feathers

First thing you need to make sure of is that you have enough feathers to complete the lei.

Next fold the material I half across the entire length so that now you have a thicker piece of cloth two centimeters wide.

Take two feathers and gently bend them with your fingers so that they are curved a bit.

Now starting at one end of the cloth, about five inches from the end, start to attach the feathers to the material. Using the needle and thread attach one feather on either side with the curve going out. Make sure that the stitching is good and tight. Attach the next two flowers half way down the first two so that half of the feathers are still exposed.

Continue along the length of the material until you get to about four inches from the other end.

That’s it your done enjoy your new creation.

ALOHA!

Hawaiian Feather Art Of The 18th Century

Historically man came to the Hawaiian Islands about two thousand years ago. Up until thearrival of Capitan James Cook in 1778 the materials that the native Hawaiians used in their art were few. These materials consisted of wood carvings, petroglyphs (rock engravings), bark cloth (which they call kapa in the Hawaiian Islands and tapa elsewhere in the pecific), tattoos and of course what is important to us feather art.

There are two great products that the native Hawaiians made out of feathers. One was capes made out of feathers and netting. And the second was the feather Lei which is the necklaces that you always see made out of flowers.

This feather cape is called a `Ahu`ula

This feather cape even though it looks the same is called by a different name. this feather cape is called a Ahuli`i.

This feather cape is made out of feathers from the Pueo bird which is actually a Hawaiian short-eared owl.

Here is a picture of a 18th century feather Lei.
