Turkey Feather Dresses

Have you started to give any thought to what you are going to wear this year to the Thanksgiving dinner?

Well there is always the chance that you are doing a family dinner and you can just show up in you pajamas if you want to, but if you are looking to get dressed up for the occasion why not try a turkey feather dress. This way you can really be getting into the holiday spirit and if you are looking to impress someone there, here is your chance. Just take a look at some of these smoking hot turkey feather dresses and see if there is something that you would like to put on for this year’s thanks giving dinner.

This first one is pretty simple and in that lays its beauty. It is just a simple strapless dress with a long turkey feather bottom. This dress won Lauren Chronister second place in a womens eveningwear contest in 2011

Simple Easy And original Feather Head Piece

So after toying around with some ideas for a new feather head piece for Halloween this year, we came up with this super easy one that so much can be done with it.

Ostrich fringe on BIAS tape is so beautiful and easy to work with that it made the perfect answer to our search.

All you need to do is measure it out around your head to find the perfect fit and then put in the stitch to hold it at the tailor fit size that you want.

Now the amazing thing about this super simple head piece is that it looks great just like that. One stitch and you can be done.

Of course I am planning on adding some peacock feathers to the ends so that it has a prettier look in the back.

Of course you can also add some colorful plums to the front to add even more flare to the whole thing.

While we were working on this we got some really great ideas that I can’t wait to share with you all, but that is going to have to wait until after Halloween.

Feather Fashion In The Movies

Feathers have always been seen in the movies of Hollywood so I just decided to take a few of them and bring them into the spotlight here.

Just take a look at Gloria Swanson in this awesome feather head piece from the 1922 movie “Her Gilded Cage”

Gloria Swanson in “Her Gilded Cage” (1922)
Here you can see Joan Bennett in the 1930 wearing a large collar of black feathers.

After we enter the age of cooler films we can appreciate this 70s style feather dress that Salma Hayek is wearing in the MRAMAX Movie “54”

This dress that Elizabeth Banks wore in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is a really interesting one. It’s a butterfly dress which is made up of about 10,000 feathers. The kind of thing you will only see in Hollywood.

For now I will just finish off with this simple feather head piece and feather fan which Alexandra Byrne is sporting in the film “Elizabeth The Golden Age”

Feather Fashion Fall 2014

Of course we have a wide range of great new feather rich cloths for this year’s fall collection but I only have the time to bring up the three designers who really caught my attention this far.

I really like the Just Cavalli line.

Last year’s theme that was strong by her was Love & Activism which was really great.

No need to say this year’s line is stunning as well.

Prabal Gurung also put a lot of feathers in his fall collection this year and in my opinion he is taking a bit of a more classy approach.

And then we have Nicole Miller who brought out the peacock feather dress put gives us the option to take just the shirt or skirt if we want.

Feathers in Fashion - Spring 2014

Every season is great for feathers but I think that the spring and summer are the best seasons for feathers.

Here are just a few of the great feather designs for this year’s spring fashion.

Armani used feathers in one of these dresses that you see below. This spring’s fashion collection from the seasoned designer shows the sophisticated and fairy-tale like vibes that we all know well.

This hairstyle trend of Indian braids just goes best when the feather is added. In this photo below it is shown done very well with these outfits by Nicholas K.

For Gareth Pugh these two outfits below are much more cheerful then the designs the artist is bets know for. Pugh is known best for his more dark and Gothic designs but here he seems to have gotten just a bit into the spring spirit.

Alexander McQueen who is also know well for his Gothic style brought us this outfit for spring 2014. Below we can see this masterpiece in red and black and also in white and black.

Spring Festival Feather Costumes

Here are two great feather additions that I was able to snap pictures of at this spring masquerade festival that I was at a few weeks ago.

It was a really great party along this rode in downtown.

It was even great for the kids.

This first shot is of feather eyelashes.
And these next two are of these great feather wings that this girl made.

In addition to the wings she also has a feather hat and arm bands.

Its great to see people really decorate their costumes with feathers.

Feather Fashion In History

I always say the life and the world as a whole are going in a circle. That something that is in style now was in style once before and will be in style once again in the future.

It’s more of a spiral then just a circle because there is always a change.

So feathers in fashion was, is and always will be.

Here are some pictures of feather fashion from the 1800`s.

This first one if from Wikipedia, it is from an article on the feather boa.

They say it’s a picture of a woman wearing a feather boa from 1892.

I really don’t see how you could tell it’s a feather boa from the picture.

Here is a plate from a monthly magazine in 1830 showing women’s hats decorated with feathers.

The picture below is a pen and black ink graphite depiction from the late 1700`s of a woman in a hat decorated with large feathers.

This last picture is from a post on the history of the feathered hat. Here is the link for those of you who would like to read up more on the subject.

If you have any great sites with feather fashions in history post a link and share it with us.

Feathers In Culture – Brazilian Carnival (Carnaval)

Carnival in Rio “The Greatest Show on Earth”

No one knows for sure where or when the rio carnival actually started. There are theories that it came from the Roman Catholic tradition. Something to do with a period of time before fasting where people would get together and eat drink and be marry because tomorrow we can`t.

What is known is that in the nineteenth century carnival balls became popular, with some really wild parties of the sort over at the Copacabana Palace Hotel.

That just makes me think about the song!

In the 1930`s the Samba Parade started up due to the influence of the Afro-Brazilian Culture. Then just because of the ethnic melting pot culture the carnival was born.

The carnival is based around an actual contest between the Samba schools for the best performance in dance, costume and music.

The samba dancers are the center attraction of the party and that is where the feathers come in.

They are decked out in the most amazing feather costumes and riding on these floats that are decorated with huge feathers.

Each of the Samba schools has its own tradition in many different themes such as politics, arts and sports.

Kate MccGwire Feather Art

Kate grew up in rural England where she was inspired by the beauty she saw in the nature around her and started to create art at a very young age.

After being even further inspired by the arts that she came in contact to in London and then Paris she began to develop her current style of art and sculptor.

Kate’s works have this incredible felling of fluidness and of something other worldly. But to her they are echo of human life.

She loves the duality in her art and explains its similarity to our world.

I fell that at first it was hard for me to grasp what she was saying but after a bit of thought it became somewhat clear.

So much of our life on the surface is very dry and well measured, but underneath that is the unexplained world of our emotions which in fact are the true driving forces in our life.

Christian Siriano – Feather Dress

Christian Siriano was the youngest winner of the American design competition show Project Runway

He launched his namesake "Christian Siriano" collection in 2008 which made him a millionaire by the age of 24.

At the end of the event Victoria Beckham said that she would love to wear any piece from his collection.

With the money that he won from the contest Christian put out his first line in 2008.

Here is a picture of the two toned feather dress that was at the end of his winning runway show at the Project Runway contest.
