Seeing Feathers At The Source

We all know that feathers are beautiful. They have all those great colors and different shapes.

When we see them in the bags that we ordered its always exiting but to see them still on the birds that they come from is even a bigger delight.

Just this past week I went with my family to this petting zoo which is close to our home.Of course we were taking pictures the whole time. It turned out that most of the pictures I took were of the birds.

I just couldn’t stop being amazed by the beauty of the peacocks.
I even found a bunch of peacock tail feathers and also a peacock sword feather.
What was actually very interesting was to see all the turkeys. Because the turkeys themselves are not very attractive birds but you can see really beautiful things done with their feathers.

How To Make Feather Ankle Cuffs

The purpose of this post is to give simple instructions on how to create your own feather ankle cuffs.
These feather ankle cuffs can be made very easily and if you put some effort into them they can be very nice looking.
Ok so lets get to work.
What you are going to need
1.       Feathers
2.       Two inch wide strips of leather
3.       Hot glue gun
4.       Needle and thread
5.       Velcro patches
The first thing you need to do is measure the space around your ankle and add four inches. Then cut the leather strips to the length that you want.
The best size allows the cuffs to stay right above your ankle bone but not to be too tight on your skin.
The extra four inches is for the Velcro.
Next bend the leather strip in half along the length so that you will have a one inch strip of leather.
Press the leather together so that you create a visible crease.
Cut the feathers so that they are the length that you want them to be.
If you are planning on wearing you feather cuffs with high heels then you can leave them longer then if you are going to wear the bare foot.
Now glue the feathers in place by the steam just up the middle crease.
You want the feathers to be slightly over lapping.
Bend the leather over while the glue is still hot.
Now sow the seam closed.
Cut the Velcro into two inch by one inch squares and sow them onto the ends of the leather strips.
THAT’S IT, YOU ARE DONE
TELL US HOW THEY COME OUT!

Feather Ankle Cuffs

Feather ankle cuffs are a great way to add feathers to your outfit.
They are really cool, different and are sure to get you lots of extra attention if you wear them out to the club.
Just think if you saw someone wearing these hot pink ostrich feather ankle cuffs out in the club. You would remember it more then most of the other people you saw out there, RIGHT!
These peacock feather ankle cuffs are a great way to add a bit of magic to your outfit.
If you ever want to dress up as Tinker Bell or just any fairy these peacock feather ankle cuffs are a great addition to the outfit. They look really great as you see them here with these black pumps but I bet they would look good even if they were worn bare foot.
Now if what you’re going for is more the Indian style look then these WARRIOR brown feather ankle cuffs are the ones for you.

If you have any other feather ankle cuffs and pictures of them let us know.

Peacock Feather Wall Art

Happen to have a big bunch of large peacock feathers and I was thinking of using them to make some wall art.

Before I get to work pasting feathers to the walls of my house I decided to first ask google what they think.

Here are some of the images that came up from a Google search for “peacock feather wall art.

This is a picture of wall that is nothing like what I want to do but still really nice

This one is closer to what I want to make because it is made with real peacock feathers.

Here is the link so you can take a look at it on YOSSAWAT.

You can also read about how to make your own feather wreath.

Here is one that is a lot closer to what I have in mind, but not exactly.

You can see it in a post on highheelsandahammer.com.
Well whatever I do decide to do for my wall art you can be sure to see a post about it when its done.

How To Make A Feather Wig

There are a lot of ways you could go about creating your own feather hair piece. A lot of the instructions that you can find on the internet are based around using a cheap wig for a base. Using a cheap hair piece you would need to cut off the hair and then attach the feathers using a hot glue gun.
This can be a simple and fun way to create a feather wig, but if you want to create something that is of a slightly higher caliber you are going to need to purchase a wig base.
You can buy inexpensive material wig bases online. Then you would just need to attach each feather with a simple stitch.
The basic idea is the same for both. You can either attach the feathers using a hot glue gun or sow them on. You start with the bottom row and work your way up. Each row of feathers should overlap the row underneath it. Use the longer feathers for the lower rows and the smaller feathers for the upper rows and bangs.
The top row of feathers should have the feather stem removed entirely.
Use colors and lengths as you please to suit your look.
Good luck, have fun and tell us how it comes out.
